• Oakdale History

Oakdale Elementary a STEAM school has been an integral part of the Rock Hill Community for many years. The original Mount Holly School, located on Highway 901/Mount Holly Road was destroyed by fire, and students had to be relocated. They first met in the basement of Mt. Holly United Methodist Church and later in the National Guard Armory on Saluda Street. The new Oakdale School building opened in September 1950 to replace the original Mount Holly School.  The school was named for a large grove of oak trees in the area when the school was built, most of which are now gone. Oakdale has been renovated twice (1979 and 1998) since the school opened. The colors and mascot for Oakdale School were chosen by the first graduating class, who were in the eighth grade when the school opened. The colors are Kelly green and white, and the mascot is the Green Dragon. Many generations have attended Oakdale, and we are proud of our rich heritage.
